INTRODUCTION TO TANZANIA BIRD ATLAS
As the subtitle suggests this is not just about mapping the distribution of birds in Tanzania. By collecting data on a monthly basis and concentrating on evidence of breeding we hope to understand much more about the seasonality of our birdlife.
It is sometimes difficult for people unfamiliar with the tropics to understand how different animal and plant life cycles can be without the all pervasive effect of a harsh winter. Even the ubiquitous Yellow-vented Bulbul Pycnonotus barbatus with its well defined, but noticeably prolonged, breeding season has some populations that breed during the dry season. We have yet to begin to analyse the data for this species and suspect some rather interesting results in terms of breeding season variability. There are considerable differences in rainfall throughout the country both in volume and timing and temperature variables caused by altitude and latitude.
You can add data to the project either by submitting recent sightings, triplists, images, sounds, videos and other relevant information directly to us, or preferably by joining the TZ-Atlas and submit all your birding data from Tanzania directly into the web site.
Contact webmaster stein(@)tromsofoto.net if you need support! All new information will be reviewed and added to website within 24H, if urgent send an e-mail. KARIBUNI SANA!
