Common Swift (Apus apus)

Common swift; almost uniform dark, young have apparently a more contrasting throat pattern (resembling the pallid swift). The "hips" are not as broad as in the pallid swift, and the hand is more pointing in the common. In Europe swifts seldom require "a second glance" - as we have so few species. Hope this will help in setting an ID on some of the many species and millions of swifts that soon are to migrate over Tanzania. Photo: 02/08 2009. Copyright © Louis A. Hansen
