Lesser Honeyguide (indicator minor)
Small size, no malar stripe, no white above bill, wherefore I believe it is most likely to be a Pallid Indicator (the I. minor is larger!). However, would appreciate help here. See those nostrils, only very few books illustrate these correct - the nostrils seems to shrink, rapidly, on skins. Sex; do not know. Age; possible immature [due to the soft fleshy gap]. Subspecies; too confusing to know. Udzungwa Mts, June 2007. Copyright@; Louis A. Hansen. Remark on the lesser and pallid honeyguides: the various books I have consulted (Birds of Africa, Zimmerman et al. 1996, Stevenson&Fanshawe 2001, Short&Horne 2001), gives confusing information and the illustrations are contradicting, so a word of causing for us who do not see these species often, when trying to identifying these smart birds.
