File African Firefinch dawn song
This clip of the dawn song of African Firefinch was recorded in mixed woodland (Acacia/Commiphora/Combretum/Brachystegia) with a thick understory of Lantana bushes and Hyperhenia grasses at Kigwambimbi, Iringa on 22 April 2008. It was originally (miss) identified as Jameson's Firefinch as this is the only species that had been recorded at this locality over the past 10 years. However, this year it was pointed out to me by Jeff DaCosta that African FF was also present. As the habitat thickens and woodland regenerates at Kigwembimbi, it would appear that African FF is replacing Jameson's FF.
File Jameson's Firefinch call notes
Call notes of Jameson's Firefinch. These are usually given in flight and when birds have been flushed. It may also act as a sort of contact call between birds as this species is usually found in pairs or small groups. This recording was made in secondary miombo woodland at Kigwambimbi, 12 km East of Iringa.
File Variable Sunbird territorial song
Territorial song given by males at dawn.
File Common Bulbul dawn song
This is a typical dawn song given by Common Bulbul in Southern and Central Tanzania. Recorded at Kigwambimbi 12 km East of Iringa.
File Little Rush Warbler, Bradypterus baboecala (elgonensis?)
This song was recorded in a small seasonally wet depression a few hundred meters east of the Simba Kopjies in Serengeti National park. The song of this subspecies (whatever it is) is very different from the song of B. b. msiri and B. b. tongensis from further east.
File Sokoke Scops Owl, Otus irenae
