13/2 2 east coast at Karafuu Hotel, 14/2 1 east coast at Karafuu Hotel. A typical Pluvialis plover, but slim and delicate in build especially when compared with nearby Grey Plover. Long legs (for a Pluvialis) and long wings reaching just beyond tip of tail (and this was adding to the slim appearance). Size of body a little larger than nearby Turnstone. Slender bill, steep front and large eye. In general a yellow-buffish colour to the plumage with a pale whitish belly giving the only contrast. A delicate pale buffish line starting as a supercilium from the front continuing above the eye and curving down the side of the neck. In flight the upperwing showed an indistinct wingbar, while the underwing and axillars was uniform greyish giving a pronounced contrast to the pale belly. Legs greyish. Seen extremely well on both days through handheld 10x50 bins (Zeiss). On the second day the remaining bird was shown to colleagues Olivier Langrand, Rob Little and Richard Caroll. I have recent experience with the species from Oman (2001), Yemen (1993) and Ethiopia (1996).
