Sightings from Zanzibar
Fiona Reid March 2006
Just back from Zanzibar from a trip with 85 students so didnt get too much birding done.
Jozani had paradise flycatcher, tambourine dove, loads of BB starlings, olive sunbirds and little greenbul, striped kingfisher and a black and white cuckoo...
fumba island had...
lesser and greater sandplovers
curlew sandpiper
turnstones
ringed plover
grey plover
whimbrel
common terns
little terns
sand in front of Zanzibar beach resort
green backed heron
grey heron
dimorphic egret
greenshank
crab plover
grey plover
whimbrel
common sandpiper
sooty gulls
lesser crested terns
anyway the reason for putting these down cos you know I am not a terribly reliable contributor is that I saw another instance of death of bird at this hotel
fisherman spots cormorant on shallow pool, pulls in boat and walks quickly over to the pool. cormorant I suppose being a bit waterlogged is unable to get away from a walking man and is clubbed to death..and taken to boat. Is this for bait? I cant imagine they would be too tasty. It is also a worrying thought that they can be so easily taken.
