File 1235-Peters Twinspot
1235-Peters Twinspot Aug09. This map prompted by our catching birds in dry Masai thicket earlier this year and Melissa Eager seeing them on the edge of Swaga Swaga Miombo habitat west of Kwamtoro. These being rather tenuous links between birds along the base of the northern rift in groundwater forests and the widespread coastal lowlands population. Neil

File African Firefinch dawn song
This clip of the dawn song of African Firefinch was recorded in mixed woodland (Acacia/Commiphora/Combretum/Brachystegia) with a thick understory of Lantana bushes and Hyperhenia grasses at Kigwambimbi, Iringa on 22 April 2008. It was originally (miss) identified as Jameson's Firefinch as this is the only species that had been recorded at this locality over the past 10 years. However, this year it was pointed out to me by Jeff DaCosta that African FF was also present. As the habitat thickens and woodland regenerates at Kigwembimbi, it would appear that African FF is replacing Jameson's FF.
File Jameson's Firefinch call notes
Call notes of Jameson's Firefinch. These are usually given in flight and when birds have been flushed. It may also act as a sort of contact call between birds as this species is usually found in pairs or small groups. This recording was made in secondary miombo woodland at Kigwambimbi, 12 km East of Iringa.
