It was originally (miss) identified as Jameson's Firefinch as this is the only species that had been recorded at this locality over the past 10 years. However, this year it was pointed out to me by Jeff DaCosta that African FF was also present. As the habitat thickens and woodland regenerates at Kigwembimbi, it would appear that African FF is replacing Jameson's FF.</description> <dc:publisher>No publisher</dc:publisher> <dc:creator>dcmoyer</dc:creator> <dc:rights></dc:rights> <dc:subject>ESTRILDIDAE - WAXBILLS, CORDONBLEU, MANNIKIN, SEEDCRACKERS, PYTILIA, FINCH, OLIVEBACK, CRIMSONWING, TWINSPOT, GRENADIER</dc:subject> <dc:date>2009-03-09T16:57:30Z</dc:date> <dc:type>File</dc:type> </item>

You will hear a sound like "quid - quid" or "(h)wiid - (h)wiid". This is a common display call which is heard e.g. just before sunrise. Sometimes this call is heard when it still rest on its favourite "night resting tree". However, most often it starts to call as it start souring on rather slow wing beats.
